Universal Eddy Current Power Amplifier Units

DyneSystems offers two options for controlling a dynamometer. The first option is a Closed Loop solution, utilizing either the Dyn-Loc IV or the Inter-Loc V dynamometer controller. The second option provides an Open Loop solution utilizing one of our Universal Eddy Current Power Amplifier Units. DyneSystems PAU's are designed to operate as standalone units or will interface with most available controllers.

DS507 - The Original

DyneSystems' original Universal Power Amplified unit, the DS507, was developed in the 1990's as a standalone unit. It is also designed specifically as an interface between the Dyn-Loc controller and the dyno, although it is compatible with any other controller that supplies a 0 to +10 VDC signal (except the DyneSystems Inter-Loc V - see DS820 below).

The DS507 is a Remote Power Amplifier Unit. It is not a controller and it has no control or data display capability. It is simply a fast response power supply for eddy current dynamometer coils, providing exactly the current required.

Each power amplifier provides field forcing and regeneration, greatly reducing the response time of an eddy current dynamometer. The power amplifiers include one DS506 Snubber board for noise suppression, and one SCR module.

Torque Measurement: DS507, along with a potentiometer, a Digital Strain Meter, and a Digital Speed Meter meets the requirements of measuring torque at a given speed at about one-half the cost of the closed loop solution.

DS820 - The Intelligent PAU Solution

Introduced in 2007, the DS820 uses single-phase regenerative control with additional field forcing functionality, to provide ultra-fast response. Its main advances over the DS507 are LCD readout of diagnostics, faults and other information; 30 Amp capability in the rack-mounted model; and its ability to interface with all existing DyneSystems dynamometer controllers as well as competitors' controllers.
