Dyn-Loc IV Digital Dynamometer Controller
Precise, Repeatable Control Since 1982
Dyn-Loc 4 remains the engine and motor test industry's favorite single-loop digital dynamometer control
The Dyn-Loc IV is designed to provide precise, repeatable and stable Eddy Current and DC dyno test control. Digital control gives you quick, accurate selection of setpoints and zero percent regulation and drift. Leverwheel switches assure fast input that's always on the numbers, and digital reference and feedback yield 100% repeatability, so your tests are consistent. Crystal oscillator-based setpoint and digital RPM and Torque control allow unmatched adjustment-free operation. Just make one adjustment for Current Limit at start up, and you're off and running.
Integrates With Test Systems
Dyn-Loc IV is DyneSystems' fourth generation single-loop dyno controller and, along with its ancestors, has long been a standard tool for a loyal following of dynamometer users. It integrates seamlessly with automation, data acquisition, and cell safety systems. RS232, parallel, and analog interface options permit easy integration into your test cell computer system. Manual operation and load cell Span and Zero, using the digital setpoint switches and push buttons, offer easy and error-free operation.
Applications
The Dyn-Loc IV control enhances the performance and reliability of your engine and chassis dynamometers. Quick, easy interconnection is guaranteed to your computer (parallel, serial, or analog), DTC-1 throttle control, Eddy-Current dynamometer, or motoring dynamometer (AC or DC). (Or check out our preferred method of AC dyno control.)

Specifications
Control
The Dyn-Loc IV is a complete Eddy-Current control package and a "front end" for motoring systems. RPM/Torque setpoint frequency is based on .005% accuracy crystal oscillator. This provides Zero percent RPM or Torque regulation and drift from setpoint.
The Digital LAC (rate of change of setpoint) ranges from 39 to 5,000 units/sec. (optional X 1/10, ranges provide minimum LAC of 4 units/sec.). PID factors adjustable for optimum transient response and fast setup.
Standard range of RPM control from 50 to 9,999 RPM (others available). Torque control from 10 to 9,999 units.
A 4SCR regenerative Eddy-Current Power Amplifier delivers fast response and is field adjustable from 0.5 to 16A. Complete control of dynamometer, dyno status, and test data is achieved through the Dyn-Loc IV serial or parallel communication ports. No analog/digital/analog conversions are required since the Dyn-Loc utilizes digital data directly.
SERIAL COMPUTER CONTROL - Serial port software/hardware allows easier high level programming using easily discernible keywords. Standard RS232 voltage level definitions and ASCII format are used to talk to any computer equipped with a serial port. Standard data format: 1 start bit, 8 data bits, 2 stop bits, and no parity. Baud rates to 115 KB are DIP switch selectable. All Dyn-Loc functions and variables are accessible through this port.
PARALLEL COMPUTER CONTROL - Interconnection via ribbon wire/mass termination, or crimp pins. High Noise Immunity: CMOS input, plus 25 microsecond input filters. Control functions available through two sub D connectors. - 16 bit RPM or torque setpoint, or 8 bit LAC (bit selected) data input. - 16 bit RPM or Torque (bit selected) data output. - 9 output status bits (important mode and condition data). 7 input bits (modes, data input type, data output type).
Dyn-Loc IV Remote Control Unit
REMOTE CONTROL UNIT - Pedestal-mounted controller same as Dyn-LocIV except does not include Auto Zero and Auto Span functions.
- Provides mode control, setpoint entry and display
- Identical to Master Unit in appearance, size, and function except AS, AZ, LAC, and shunt cal are not provided
- Rack or bench mounting; pedestal floor stand or boom optional
- Interconnection by 37 pin mass termination connectors, round ribbon
Auxiliary Control Inputs
- Analog Reference Input: 0 to + 10 VDC = 0 to 10,000 RPM/Torque units; the Dyn-Loc may be jumper programmed to use this signal in Remote mode.
- Analog Torque Feedback Input: 0 to + 10 VDC = 0 to 10,000 Torque units; the Dyn-Loc may be jumper programmed to use this signal.
- Frequency Torque Input: 0 to 20,000 Hz = 0 to 10,000 Torque units; signal must be a square wave with maximum 60/40 unbalance.
