DC Dynamometer Drives Overview

Our DC Drive packages offer a complete packaged solution for new and existing DC dynamometer installations. A Dyne Systems DC dynamometer drive package can cost effectively revitalize existing DC dynamometer installations that suffer from failing or obsolete DC drive systems.

ABB Drives Alliance Partner

Dyne Systems is an ABB Drives Alliance Integrator which provides our customers with the highest level of application, engineering and service expertise and can also offer other benefits like extended warranty on ABB based DC drive systems installed by Dyne Systems personnel. DC drive solutions can be tailored to include application specific functions and controls. Each DC drive system is packaged in a NEMA rated enclosure and includes a disconnect.

Regenerative (4-Quadrant) DC Drives

Regenerative DC drive systems, also known as four-quadrant drives, are capable of controlling both speed and direction of DC dynamometer rotation, as well as the direction of DC dynamometer torque. The term “regenerative” describes the ability of the drive under braking conditions to convert the mechanical energy of the motor and connected load into electrical energy which is returned (or regenerated) to the AC power source

Regenerative DC drives provide the DC Dynamometer the ability to both absorb power and motor the device under test.

Non-Regenerative (2-Quadrant) DC Drives

Non-Regenerative DC drive systems, also known as two-quadrant drives, are capable of controlling motor speed and torque in one direction only. Typically, 2-quadrant DC dynamometer drive systems are used to control a DC dynamometer that acts as a prime mover in a test stand. This motoring-only DC dynamometer may drive a device under test while controlling and measuring speed or torque.
